Well, it has been QUITE a few days. Let's recap....
Wednesday everything was shut down up here. Luckily for me, school was closed for the day due to some bad weather- lots of snow and ice. We lost power pretty early on so after a few pictures, I packed up the kids and everything that they would need for Wednesday and the next day at the hospital and we headed down to grandma and pop-pop's to stay warm.

Addison refused to look at the camera and would only stare at her big brother!
Thursday was Nicholas' surgery. His surgery was one of the first of the day so we were at the hospital nice and early and actually got into the operating room early which meant the procedure was done early. It was a horrible feeling to see my little guy "pass out" from the gas but I knew I was leaving him in excellent hands. The surgery went very well and the doctor was really happy with the outcome. We waited for what seemed like forever- an hour or so- to be called into recovery. Once in there we began the roller coaster that has been the past few days. Nicholas was doing pretty well, or as well as could be expected after major surgery. He looked miserable and was clearly uncomfortable. The nurses and doctors were WONDERFUL! He did not have a fever at that point was horribly clammy and cold and nauseous. He was loaded up with a bunch of pain killers and anti-nausea meds and eventually fell asleep. We were in recovery for roughly 3.5 to 4 hours, about 2 hours longer than the doctors had anticipated. We took our little guy back to grandma and pop-pop's for a little bit where we showered him with puddings, milkshakes, lollipops, and tons of ice cream. We headed home and had a somewhat rough night of coughing fits and lots of pain. The poor little guy took it like a real trooper. Friday dawned and I thought it was a whole new day. Nicholas appeared to being SO MUCH BETTER. He played, took his medicines, enjoyed time with grandma and ate like a CHAMP! Friday night rolled around and the new day was done. Nicholas spiked a fever and soon became increasingly uncomfortable and grouchy- as you would, too! Another rough night followed by this morning. Nicholas' fever went up even more and we were off to the hospital for the morning. We had some things checked and looked at to make sure there was no pneumonia or extensive infection developing. Luckily, there is not. The doctor at the pediatric ER in Morristown was WONDERFUL! (I've said it before, I cannot say enough good things about the Goryeb Children's Hospital!) We loaded Nicholas up on a bunch of his medicines and headed to grandma and pop-pop's. I wanted to stay close to the hospital because there was a chance of the fever going even higher. Plus, grandma and pop-pop are so great with Nicholas and making him feel better no matter how crappy he feels!
Nicholas slept most of the day away today and is currently sleeping next to me on the couch. He's in pain. He's miserable. He's taking it like a real trooper. This surgery, as every doctor we've spoken to has said, is major surgery for anyone but for a little person like our guy it's even worse. To top it all off, the medicine he's on tastes TERRIBLE! I can't tell you how hard it is to see your little one suffer like this but I know that the surgery was for the best and completely necessary.
Thank you to everyone who has sent your thoughts and prayers, we so appreciate them and so very grateful for them! We're sorry we haven't been in more contact but as you can see it's been a little nuts! Thanks and please continue to remember our little guy in your thoughts and prayers over the next few days and week.

Nicholas never just falls asleep like this.
