Surprise!!

Yesterday was quite a fun day around here!!
Aunt Heather and Aunt Niki came up to visit with Aunt Heather's niece Camryn and we all headed out to spend the day together. We went to a GIANT indoor playground a few towns over so the kids could play and I could check it out- Nicholas is having his birthday party there in a few weeks! The kids had a BALL! There were a ton of slides and tunnels and a bounce house. It was definitely worth it!

After what we only hoped would tire the kids out, we headed to lunch. After lunch we tried to take the long way home hoping everyone would fall asleep in their car seats! No such luck! The girls fell asleep about 5 minutes from home, which really wouldn't matter once we got inside!!

We got home and I noticed that Pat was home even though he told me he had to be at work all day. Once we got inside I saw that a bunch of my friends and family had gathered together to celebrate my 29th birthday! Aunt Heather and Pat had been planning a surprise party for me and the goal of the morning was to keep me out of the house and distracted! It definitely worked!!

It was a really great party! Lots of great food and company! And definitely a surprise! It was so wonderful to celebrate with everyone and get to spend the day with them. It was an awesome day and I am unbelievably grateful for all of the people I have in my life that care about me and love me and were able to celebrate with me!!

Thank You!!

The slideshow was made by Aunt Heather- I have pictures from the playground that I'll post separately!

Big Girl Bed Beginnings

Lots of fun things happened today!! After skating we stopped to visit uncle Matt at the restaurant and have something to eat and then we headed home. Addie went in for a nap and then exhibited her newest skill- climbing out of her crib. This is one "milestone" we never had to deal with with Nicholas. Nicholas never even attempted to climb out of his crib. Addison has more than made up for that by climbing out of hers 10 times in the past two days. She even climbed into bed with Pat this morning and woke him up!! We decided that, since she clearly was not going to stay in there if she didn't want to and we didn't want her to get hurt, it was time to covert her crib into a big girl bed!

So, tonight Addison will (hopefully) be sleeping in her big girl bed! She seems to really love it while she's awake. We're keeping our fingers crossed that she loves it even more when she's sleeping!!

The Skating Stellas

This week is exam week for me at work which means I have half days all week! This has been really nice because I can get work done in the afternoon or something a bit more fun! Today was Pat's day off so we met at my school once I was done and we headed to a nearby skating rink to get Nicholas some ice time.

We arrived at the pretty empty rink just in time to get in about an hour or so of ice time. We quickly laced up our skates and Nicholas' skates and took to the almost empty ice. There was maybe 6 other people there, 4 of which were little kids and two their moms. They stayed for about half the time we were there and then left which gave us the ice all to ourselves! It was GREAT! Nicholas did a little solo skating but mainly stayed with stand, even though he doesn't use one during his lessons. Mommy and Daddy got in a little bit of skating, too. Addison only was able to walk on the ice this time. We opted not to get her skates this time around because we weren't sure they would fit her. Next time she is definitely going to be skating with us! Even though she didn't have skates she had a good time walking on the ice and even getting to slide around on her bottom a bit!

Ready to hit the ice!

The Incredible Growing Girl!!

We headed to the pediatrician today for some Flu shots. I was actually trying to put them off for as long as possible in the hopes of the kids not having to get them at all! No such luck! In addition to needing a Flu Shot, Addison also needed her 18 month checkup. (For all of you who are counting, she's 21 months! We're a little behind!)

Addie did GREAT! She's 27 pounds now, and believe me my back feels it! She's also just over 32 inches tall! And her head, not surprisingly, is right around the 95 percentile! The doctor was really happy with Addie's growth and also loved that she eats anything and everything under the sun! Dr. Julie was also impressed and thrilled with our little girl's potty progress (we're just beginning but she's getting there!) and Addie's vocabulary!! Dr. Julie told us that Addison has the vocabulary of a three year old, and I can absolutely attest to her extensive word usage and incredible usage of full sentences!!

It has been incredible to see the differences between Nicholas and Addison. Addison is so completely different from how Nicholas was at her age and there are so many reasons for that! We talked for awhile about Addie's development and her early entrance into what can only be termed the Torrential Twos!! Nicholas never really went through the Terrible Twos- he had too many other things going on. Now, with Addison we are getting an extra big, extra special dose of it! Most days end in laughing about her escapades but some of them can be quite off the wall! Luckily, according to Dr. Julie, Addie entered into this stage early and at full force so it's a pretty good chance that she'll exit out of it pretty quickly. I'm counting on that!!

All in all, it was a great visit- except for those 4 shots for Addie and 1 for Nicholas! The kids look great and we don't have to take Addison back until her 3 year old check up because she's doing so well!! We are so grateful for healthy and happy kids and wonderful doctors like Dr. Julie!

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me so I took this picture of Addie with my phone while she was eating dessert at grandma and pop-pop's.

Lacrosse Stix and Princess Shoes

Pat had the day off today and spent it at home with the kids! They did the one thing I have been dreading for weeks- They Cleaned Up Christmas!! I came up and there were still a bunch of boxes around but at least the trees were down and almost everything else was put away!!
YAY for Daddy's day off!!
With all of the new found room in the house the kids were able to run around a bit! We dug out Nicholas' new Lacrosse stix and ball and started to teach Nicholas the art of throwing and catching with a Lacrosse stick. I have to say, once he got the motion down, he did pretty well!! Addie was better at wielding her stick like a weapon but that's to be expected with her!! ;)
After Lacrosse, we opened one of Addie's new toys- a Princess dress up set! We had fun putting on the earrings and necklace and bracelets! Unfortunately, the tiara was broken when we opened the box so we'll have to find another one to complete the set!!

I even got to hold the scepter!!

This was just seconds before Addison ripped both earrings off my ears!!

The Great One

Nicholas is starting skating lessons on Thursday! He'll be learning to skate on the same ice that I learned to skate on and that two of my cousins used to play hockey on occasionally. In preparation for his first lesson, he and I went out tonight to get him a helmet. We decided to get him a hockey helmet in the hopes that after going through his lessons and learning how to skate he'll go on to play hockey!

We're still getting used to the helmet and the bulkiness of it but I think by Thursday our little Gretzky wannabe will be ready to take to the ice!!

Welcome 2009!!

Happy New Year to all of our Friends and Family!!
We hope that 2009 brings you unending Happiness and Abounding Blessings!!

We rang in the New Year at home last night. We were supposed to have a party with some friends. Unfortunately, the stomach flu and miserable colds took over our house over the past few days! Plus, a few of our party guests were also not feeling well! We ended up canceling the party and quietly ringing in the New Year as a family. I have to admit, it was pretty nice! Although, next year we'll plan for the party again!!

Pat worked for the day and then we enjoyed some yummy appetizers and drinks while we relaxed on the couch and watched TV. Around 1am, Nicholas woke me up from my snooze on the couch and wished me a Happy New Year! We headed to bed at that point and welcomed 2009 with some more snoozing!

Today, we celebrated the New Year with grandma, pop-pop and Aunt Jessica. Everyone came up to our house to celebrate and enjoy each other's company. We enjoy lots of food, some drinks and guitar hero! The perfect way to start off 2009!!

Happy New Year!
